Note: The species is rare in Norway. Thallus is up to 12 cm high, and repeatedly pseudodichotomously branched. Apices are straight or incurved, but not tightly inrolled. Axes are incompletely corticated with cortex bands more-or-less even in width, and with straight upper and lower borders, and separated by ecorticate internodes. Nodes have 5 periaxial cells, which each give rise to 2 ascending and 2 descending filaments of angular cortical cells.
