Note: The species grows on rocks, shells, kelp and other algae in the subtidal zone. It is distributed along the southern coast north to Nordland. The species develops several distinct main axis bearing a spiral arrangement of three to four orders of branches. All axes except from denuded basis of old specimens are covered with pigmented trichoblast resembling monosiphonous branchlets, giving the species a bushy apperance. Axes are uncorticated and consists of 7 peraxial cells surrounding an axial cell. Each segment of the axes developes a pigmented trichoblast which branches pseudodichotoumous 1-3 times. New polysiphonous branches are born on the basal cell of the trichoblast.
