Note: Thallus consists of unbranched, hollow and narrow tubes, typically up to 10 cm tall and 3 mm wide. Often several tubes grow from the same attachment point. The species often grows as an epiphyte in shallow waters. Below the layer of relatively small surface cells 1-2 layers of large, rounded cells with little or no pigmentations are found. When fertile, groups of unilocular, round zoidangia, together with up to 7 cells long paraphyses and hairs, form sori on the surface. The species is seasonal (spring-autumn) and grows along the whole coast.
