1 of 3: Thallus of loose-laying form
Note: Irregular main branching of relatively thick and dark brown (blackish) axes, with whorls of short, uniseriate side branches of determined growth. The small side branches are more densely set in the top of the axes, while below the tip there is a clear gap between the whorls. The short side branches are normally strongly curved. The species occurs loose-lying in the upper sublittoral in Norway. The species was recently identified in Europe, and two samples of the species from South-Norway have been identified through sequencing (Heesch et al. 2020; https://doi.org/10.1080/09670262.2020.1740947). The species may be mixed up with Cladostephus spongiosus.
