Note: The gametophytic stage is to 3 cm tall, has a short but conspicuous stipe and a blade with irregular outline, or dichotomously divided or lobed a few times. Gametophytic specimen often occur in dense stands. The tetrasprophyte is crust formed. The species is relatively rare in Norway.
