Note: The species grow as microscopic pseudoparenchymatic discs on other algae or hard substratum. It can also grow as branched prostrate filaments. Cells have a parietal chloroplast with 1(-3) pyrenoids. Long, normally straight hairs (ochlochaete hairs) form from vegetative cells.

Note: A relatively small individual forming a disc. Cells with a parietal chloroplast and pyrenoids are seen.
