Note: The species is abundant in the littoral zone during spring. Thallus is bright green, uniseriate and densely branched, and may become up to 10-15 cm long. Axes carry descending rhizoids with somewhat less pigmentation. Some branches end in a conspicuous curved or hooked branch. The tips of branches become pointed or spinous as growth ceases. The sporophyte is a unicellular structure (the ‘Codiolum’-stage).
