Note: The species forms small and dense turf-like patches of short upright axes (2-7 mm tall). The upright axes are unbranched or only sparsely branched and grow from creeping stolons or discs forming the basal part of the turf. Segments are typically longer than wide, lack rhizoidal cortex and have rare, transverse walls. Rhizoids are formed on lower part of axes and are thinner and more curved than lateral branches. Unilicular and plurilocular sporangia form on different individuals. Unilocular sporangia are ovoid or spherical and occur on short stalks of 1-2 cells. The species is rare in Norway where it has been found in the intertidal.
