Note: The species has a pseudoparenchymatic structure and appears soft and gelatinous. It grows to around 20 cm and consists of thick main axes with side branches set in an irregular way. Side branches are variable with regard to thickness. The surface is covered by assimilation filaments, which have slightly barrel shaped or rounded basal cells. In fertile individuals unilocular sporangia are found at the basal part of the assimilation filaments.
