Note: The species occurs in the lower part of the intertidal and in the sublittoral fringe, and it normally grows as an epiphyte. It has an irregular spherical outline, and large individuals are hollow. The species has a pseudoparenchymatic structure with large and irregularly shaped inner cells ending in terminally short filaments (paraphyses) and hairs, embedded in a gelatinous matrix. When the species fertile, unilocular or plurilocular sporangia occur in between the paraphyses. It has been reported to have a heteromorphic life cycle, with a microthallus similar to Myrionema.
