Note: The species is pluriseriate and unbranched and set with colourless hairs. Older specimens are hollow and may become somewhat inflated, and can grow to 4 m and become around 4 mm in diameter. The species forms dense stands in sheltered bays during summer. It is annual and disappears during autumn.
