Note: The species grows to around 5 cm tall, is uniseriate and irregularly branched with many relatively short and curved side branches (“hook branches”). Several main axes become strongly intertwined, giving an appearance of a compact thallus (“dreadlocks”). It is a common epiphyte on Fucus but may also grow on rock. It has small stipitate gametangia or sporangia.
